KNOW YOUR DOCUMENTS
These blue and yellow form photographs show examples of South African electrical CoC paperwork. They are reference examples, rather than certificates issued for the illustrated projects.

These references have different printed scopes. The appropriate form depends on the installation, rather than its colour. Your issued documents must relate to the inspected installation.
THE RIGHT DOCUMENT. THE RIGHT SCOPE.
An electrical CoC must be issued by a registered person after inspection and testing, with the accompanying test report. The relevant electrical scope depends on your site and the work.
New or altered fixed electrical circuits.
Fixed electrical supply work; camera and data circuits are a separate scope.
Fixed supply to the gate; motor, controls and operational checks are separate.
Fixed lighting circuits at the property.
Electrical supply to plant; mechanical performance, gas and pressure certification are separate.
Associated fixed electrical installation and connection; other approval requirements depend on the site.
Fixed wiring and changeover installation; a portable generator alone is a different scope.
Read the Electrical Installation Regulations and the government explanatory notes. Equipment, controls and other specialist approvals should be discussed separately.
Seven example project settings, showing how electrical documentation can be discussed across our services. Certificates shown are samples.
